Installation & setting technology

Installation of the vineyard stakes

The professional installation of vineyard stakes is crucial for the stability and longevity of your trellis system. With the right tools and methods, it can be done on any terrain.

Suitable tools & installation methods

Our posts can be installed mechanically, hydraulically or using compressed air. Impact protectors or driving caps reliably protect the post head against deformation. In very stony soils, pre-drilling or the use of a vibratory post driver is recommended.

Recommended installation depths

  • Line posts up to 1.8 m: at least 50 cm in the ground
  • Posts over 2.2 m: at least 70 cm
  • Rule of thumb: installation depth = approx. 30% of the post length
  • Steel posts should generally be installed slightly deeper than wooden or concrete posts
  • In windy locations, greater installation depths or reduced post spacing may be required

Working with stony soils

  • Pre-drilling makes installation easier
  • After installation, fill any voids by flushing in soil with water to ensure stability
  • Avoid standing water – shape the ground so that it rises slightly towards the post

Profile orientation

  • Line posts: always orient the profile opening towards the slope or downhill direction
  • End posts: install at a 70° angle and use double bracing to ensure secure stability

Recommendations depending on the terrain

  • Wind-exposed locations: reduce post spacing or increase material thickness
  • Sloping sites: ensure correct profile orientation and secure end posts with a base plate or concrete

By following these proven installation recommendations, you can ensure that your posts remain firmly anchored, withstand wind and weather, and keep your trellis system stable and low-maintenance for many years.
